Redundancy = Opportunity?

In these tough economic times redundancy is an inevitable part of the scene.

Being made redundant for many people is a major shock. A job is the cornerstone of their identity and many will be overwhelmed by negative feelings. “Why me?”

Our role is to help you to turn this into an opportunity.

Redundancy can be the catalyst that is needed to move your career on, or to act as a springboard to take on a whole new direction.

A large number of people are stuck in jobs that they do not enjoy or are not using their talents.

An important part of our role is to help remove the initial shock and build people’s confidence. People need positive help and know how quickly.

Job hunting can be a very lonely process. During a job search it is not unusual to amass a large number of rejections.

An objective, supportive shoulder to lean on can be an invaluable resource at this difficult time.

 

The Redundancy Programme

Whilst much will depend on individual needs a typical programme may include five key elements:-

1. Personal Assessment  -The career Plan

Using well researched questionnaires, a detailed assessment of peoples’ job interests, abilities, skills and personal qualities is clearly defined and profiled. This essential preparatory work helps people to decide what realistic options are open to them.

2. CV Preparation

Careful attention is given to produce this very important document which needs to be eye catching and highlights “essentials” in a readily and easily assimilated form without overloading it with detail. Its purpose is to open doors, it is a selling document.

The message that the CV gives needs to be clear, uncomplicated and something that prompts the reader to do something.

3. Approaching the Job Market (Marketing Strategy)

This stage contains the following activities

  • Answering Advertisements
  • Contacting Agencies/ Head-hunters
  • Letter Writing
  • Filling in Application Forms
  • Networking

4. Presentation and Interviews

  • How to prepare for interviews

  • How to handle rejections
  • How to stay positive.

The programme is designed to assist people to get he right job to which they are most suited in the shortest possible time. Most important of all it provides a very personal level of support at a time when a persons life is thrown into confusion.
